Mike's Services

Obedience:

In today’s world, many dog training schools offer impossible results that are obtained through the use of tricks or gimmicks. These methods often involve the use of food to entice your dog to do what you ask. The shortfall to this approach is that when your dog is not hungry or when there are distractions around that are stronger than his desire for food, he will not do what you ask.

At Wolfman K9, Mike does not use food, clickers, or gimmicks, just gentle touch, voice praise, love, and affection to gain the dog’s trust and loyalty so that his one desire is to please you with whatever you ask of him. Mike teaches you hand signals and body language that your dog learns to respond to. His goal is to take your dog to a one command response to a complete off-lead where you no longer need the leash to control your dog. All breeds, all ages, and all sizes benefit from our program. Mike will provide you with practical solutions for any and all problems or situations that you may come up against.

Mike does not work with structured classes as these do not simulate a real-life environment. Instead, each client has an individualized program geared to them that works at your convenience and pace. Mike’s courses are typically 4 to 6 months long for one price and, if life gets in the way of training, he make allowances. Everyone gets sick or needs to work late or wants to take a vacation. Mike’s program allows you the luxury of not worrying that you have to be in class at a set time, or that you lose out on that particular lesson. Mike encourages his clients to work at their program during their absence and to pick-up where they left off when they next come in.

Training is half-an-hour and Mike encourages you to remain for some playtime and socialization after your workout. Mike operates with open hours where you pick the times that best suit your schedule. He likes to see his clients twice weekly to ensure that you and your dog are processing the lesson and that if, you are having some difficulties, Mike can address them quickly and provide positive solutions for correction the problem.

Unique to Wolfman K9 Obedience is a weekly “puppy party” on Sundays where young dogs can interact and socialize in a positive and supervised environment. It is also a good opportunity for the handlers to share experiences! This party is the highlight of the week and greatly enjoyed by both the canine and human participants.

If you want more detailed information regarding the program, please contact Mike.

Apparatus:

Have you ever watched the agility trials and thought to yourself that you would like to have a dog that could do the courses but don’t want the pressure of being on a team? At Wolfman K9 Obedience, Mike offers a course in apparatus training where the sole goal of the program is to stimulate your dog both mentally and physically.

Mike has many different pieces of equipment that are commonly seen in the agility trials. Mike is skilled in teaching you how to motivate your dog through the course and over or through obstacles with positive reinforcement.

Mike’s only requirement for apparatus training is that your dog be at an “off leash” level where he or she responds to hand signals and voice commands. Mike has no time limit for completing this course as the main objective is for you and your dog to have fun!

Clients already enrolled in Mike’s obedience program can “try-out” the equipment on their own to determine whether this is for them.

Come in and evaluate for yourself whether this is something for you and your dog.

Protection:

With all of the attention now focused in the media regarding dog bites, would it not be beneficial to know how to control your dog when threatened? Mike can instruct you in the proper procedures for controlling your dog and for defending your safety.

Not all trainers are skilled in showing and teaching you the correct methods for protection training. It is mandatory to have controlled dogs and not aggressive dogs. Mike’s procedures will give you the confidence of knowing that you and your dog can react in a controlled manner to many situations that do occur in today’s society but not to over-react.

Mike’s protection program is held separate to his obedience training and a temperament test is conducted prior to training starting. This testing is to ensure that your dog is ready mentally for the training as it is a very intense course that must be started once the dog have reached a level of maturity. This level is unique to each dog and most dogs are not ready for this training until they are, at a minimum, a year old.

Mike requires that prior to protection training, you and your dog must have completed your obedience training. His procedures require a high level of control and this cannot be attained unless the dog has been seasoned and attentive to your commands.

If this program interests you, contact Mike to gain further information and perhaps view a training session.
