OUR DOG, CLIFFORD

I must confess that I was not entirely impressed when our oldest son, Nathan, (then 22 years old) came home one evening in February last year with the announcement, “Look, mom, I brought home a puppy!” My immediate response to our son was that he needed to be responsible and look after the puppy or else I would find it a new home. It soon became apparent that I was the one looking after the puppy, Clifford, but by that time I was becoming rather attached to him and didn’t have the heart to let him go. Clifford was no longer just our son’s dog but became our family dog.

I must also confess that I was leary of Clifford’s rottweiler/black lab/shepherd mix so I knew that he needed proper training. I did not want an out-of-control, aggressive, strong-willed dog.
A local pet store recommended Mike Martin at WolfmanK9 Obedience School. Convenient, flexible hours, rewarding with praise (not treats) and the opportunity to train our dog as a family until we were at a level we were comfortable with, attracted us to this training program.

We appreciated Mike’s patient, individualized training style that works at both the family member’s and dog’s pace. I discovered that I was the one that needed training and learned more at “Dog School” than Clifford did!

Mike insisted on consistent, regular training and practice so our 16 year old son, Daryl, and I faithfully visited 2 or 3 times/week beginning when Clifford was 3 months until he was 1 year old. We also practiced training with Clifford daily at home.

Clifford now knows all of the basic commands (Sit, stay, come, down, heel, etc.) both on and off lead. We still visit “Dog School” occasionally because Clifford loves to go.

Clifford is now well adjusted, obedient, good natured, friendly and devoted 16 month old dog because of Mike’s training and because he has had the opportunity to socialize with a variety of dogs.
I highly recommend WolfmanK9 Obedience School.
