We first heard about Mike Martin from the vets we go to after mentioning to them that the trainer we had been to with our young dog, Chinook, hadn’t done much good. Chinook is an American Eskimo [miniature] and that breed is renowned for their intelligence, intense loyalty and love of family. Unfortunately for everyone else, they are also renowned for their mouth full of “alien teeth”. We were really concerned about the potential troubles which could arise, especially with young children. Mike and his staff were so highly recommended that we called him and set up an appointment the next day.

Our first visit was memorable to say the least. We are sure that Mike will remember Chinook for a long time (just ask him). She was more than a handful but by the end of that first session was following his directions almost perfectly in spite of her “ugly face” as he calls it. Today she still has that “ugly face” but can also be surprisingly well behaved when it’s necessary. Mike is a wonderful but no-nonsense master trainer who demands as much from us humans as he does our dogs, and his knowledge of these animals and canine psychology is encyclopaedic. His fee was the best money we’ve ever spent and even after finishing our training course we still continue to take Chinook to his Puppy Parties, one of the most innovative, important, and fun activities a dog can have. She still gets excited and jumps all over the back seat whenever we get close to Mike’s house and that’s about the best recommendation there is.

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Chinook passed away suddenly on Saturday March 31st of unknown causes. Please join me in extending our sympathies to Don and Beth. – Mike Martin
